本港首個「香港市民廁所衞生習慣混合研究」顯示，每5名港人僅1人每次會蓋廁板沖廁，逾4成人不蓋；雖逾5成人認為向洗手盆吐痰構成健康威脅，但卻有2成人照做。有微生物學家直指部分細菌會黏附於人的皮膚上，增加病毒感染風險，建議如廁前用濕紙巾和酒精消毒廁板，如廁後先蓋廁板再沖廁；吐痰應用紙巾包好再丟，減低細菌傳播。
